About Wanda Health
Wanda Health is a web application for healthcare practitioners designed to reduce chronic heart patient readmittance rates for hospitals. It allows practitioners to monitor patient care, administer treatment plans, and send patients educational tips to help them overcome their chronic conditions.
MY ROLE
UI/UX Design, Visual Design, User Research
CROSS FUNCTIONAL PARTNERS
1 Product Manager, 2 Engineers
The Problem
Wanda Health had an existing product that performed technically, but was full of usability issues. On the visual side, the product had no system for differentiating elements. As for UX, practictioners were forced to exit their workflows anytime they wanted to act on data or view elements in detail. Original screens from the product showing these issues are pictured below.
Wireframes
After auditing the existing product, I began the design process by wireframing the patient health record (PHR). Since the PHR is where most interactions take place, the goal behind the wireframes was to focus on visual hierarchy and create a system that was both consistent and reusable across the product.
Iterations
With the wireframes completed, I focused my high fidelity designs on increasing efficiency and keeping users grounded in their workflow. Through several iterations, I designed a sticky header to maintain context, a sub-level navigation to switch between tasks, and a dark blue background treatment with guides to make data visualizations more scannable.
Medication Manager
To complete the practitioner experience, Wanda Health needed a way for practitioners to view and create treatment plans. To accomplish this task, I designed a medication table in the PHR linked to a medication database that practitioners could access through a dynamic form. Additionally, I designed a medication compliance view showing patient treatment compliance at a daily, weekly, and monthly scale.
The Result
The redesigned application saw greater adoption rates, increasing Wanda Health's overall customer base. Healthcare practitioners finally had a product that successfully reduced chronic heart patient readmissions rates, reducing hospital losses while increasing the efficiency by which patients received treatment.
